Choosing The Right Baby Girl Clothes For Every Occasion

By Paula Heron

Although it is easy to get carried away buying the trendy cute dresses, skirts and tops that are available for the well dressed, discerning baby girl it is worth remembering that there is also a need for some inexpensive more practical outfits. Girls also like to have fun doing more physical activities and so doesnt it seem logical to get them appropriate clothes for such occasions?

All little girls love to dress up in their beautiful dresses and pretty shoes and socks. However, having seen a picture of a celebrity's toddler dressed in a trendy designer dress and cardigan with a caption saying she was going for a play day with another celebrity's sons reminded me that parents don't always choose the appropriate kids clothes for the occasion.

As a former preschool owner I was constantly amazed at the parental choices of kids clothes. Just like many other preschools, I had a play area for outdoor activities that included a climbing frame, a swing and bikes and children were encouraged to make full use of these. But some of the girls were restricted and put at risk by the long dresses and inappropriate footwear that their parents insisted on.

A girl's long dress was easily caught underfoot causing accidents. Billowing skirts and dresses all too often were caught up on a slide. Bike wheels were extremely successful at trapping a dress and throwing the girl off the bike.

And even outside playschool, aren't baby girls and young daughters entitled to just as much fun as boys are? Take them to the local park or the fairground or even a theme park such Walt Disney's Magic Kingdom and they need to run, climb, jump and exercise just like their little brothers and friends.

Another reason for not putting trendy dresses on your child for these activities is the wear and tear factor. Imagine how upset she will be if she is wearing one of her favorite dresses to preschool and they are doing arts and crafts that day and she accidentally gets paint on her dress. Or if she is playing outdoors and her dress gets ripped.

As a result, my advice has always been to dress your little girl is the clothes that match what she's doing. Make sure that your little girl isn't the one who is the best dressed one at preschool at the same time as the one who is left out of all the physical or risky or fun activities. Give her the same choices as all of the other boys and girls by outfitting her in clothes that you can afford to get a little worn and torn.

So buy her some outfits that are less costly and a lot more practical in addition to the cool trendy baby girl clothes you like the best. Save the cute kids clothes for parties and other less strenuous activities when you know they are the most appropriate.
